The Salov group (which, in Italian, stands for Società per Azioni Lucchese Olii e Vini) was founded in 1919 and today has its headquarters in Lucca, a town which is internationally acclaimed for its excellence in olive oil production. The production plant and offices are to be found in Massarosa in the Parco Naturale del Lago di Massaciuccoli, one of Italy’s national parks.
The Salov plant, where the Filippo Berio Oils are produced, is one of the biggest in Europe. The utmost attention was paid to safety and environmental conservation during the building of the site.
In a worldwide market, where there is fierce competition amongst the big international companies, Salov is the only company that has remained Italian and independent, due to the fact that it is entirely owned by the Fontana family, and so has been for 4 generations.
In the Food Oils sector it is therefore the biggest Family Company. Consumers and experts praise Salov for the high quality of its products and this has, over the years, strengthened the company both from a financial and an industrial point of view.
Salov is well known in 5 continents thanks to the Filippo Berio brand. The company in 2007 had a turnover of €330 approx. and registered a growth rate of 10% on the previous year.
The company’s success has been supported by company values such as:
- Product quality – in terms of customer satisfaction regarding both health benefits and flavour
- Olive oil know-how – handed down from one generation to the next. Right from the selection of the raw materials the process does not only involve laboratory analysis but relies on the expertise of the Salov tasters.
